Maggie has a passion for shapes: whether they be the flat or implied shapes in paintings, or the ever changing shapes seen in 3-dimensional work.
Equally she loves colour: the natural colours of wood, stone or metals but also applied colour: bright, lush or subtle.
After leaving Art College, where she gained a Dip AD (hons) and an ATC, she ran a large and successful Art Department for 10 years at a Comprehensive School in the East End of London. Currently and for over the last 5 years, she has been joint organising continual exhibitions of paintings and sculpture in offices in Guildford for Guildford Arts. Guildford Arts help promote the arts throughout the area. She is also on the committee of the Surrey Sculpture Society as Exhibitions Co-ordinator.
Her first venture into the gallery world was with printmaking, exhibiting in galleries across London, the North and the South East. A number of her prints were then 'Design Centre Approved' and she had editions published by Seen Gallery in Knightsbridge and Christies London. Some of her work was sold in New York. She also did commission work in painting.
Maggie focused on sculpture in the late '90s and her 3 dimensional works have been displayed in many gardens in the South East, such as RHS Wisley and The Savill Gardens (Crown Estate).
Working primarily in clay, she makes silicone rubber moulds and casts in a variety of materials, using both metal and inert fillers such as slate, white ciment and ferracotta. Her interest has also developed into stone carving and constructions in wood. She currently is into Photography.
She uses simple line and shape to get to the essence of a theme. Her sculpture shows vulnerability and innocence of human and bird form and her larger sculptures are still reflective yet at the same time extract a power. All her work has a rhythmic signature.
Maggie is a member of and exhibits regularly with the Surrey Sculpture Society and is a full exhibiting member of Chelsea Art Society, London. She also shows work with the Society of Women Artists in the Mall Gallery London and is a full member of both Farnham and Guildford Art Societies.
She has had a number of commissions and has work in private collections in Britain, South Africa and America.
